Overview
The Greens Creek mine, located on Admiralty Island in southeast Alaska, is one of the world's largest primary silver mines. It is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company. The underground operation produces silver, gold, zinc, and lead. The mine operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The deposit is a volcanogenic massive sulphide deposit with a high precious metal content.
Production
Production overview - 2025: silver 8700000 oz, gold 59349 oz, lead 18200 t, zinc 51300 t; 2023: silver 9700000 oz, gold 60900 oz, lead 19600 t, zinc 51500 t.
Processing
The ore is processed at a concentrating mill with a capacity of approximately 2,300 tons of ore per day. The processing facility uses a SAG/ball mill grinding circuit, followed by differential flotation to produce three concentrates: a silver concentrate, a zinc concentrate, and a zinc-rich precious metals concentrate. A gravity circuit is also used to recover free gold. The mine utilises a dry-stack method for its tailings facility. For 2025, the metallurgical recoveries were 79.3% for silver, 74% for gold, 82.6% for lead, and 88.8% for zinc.
Equipment
The primary mining methods are cut-and-fill and longhole stoping.
Expansion
In January 2026, the U.S. Forest Service approved a five-year plan of operations for the Greens Creek Surface Exploration Project, which will test existing mineralised targets and identify new ones not accessible from underground. Hecla Mining Company plans to nearly double its company-wide exploration and pre-development investment to $55 million in 2026, with a focus on replacing or exceeding annual reserve depletion. Capital investment at Greens Creek in 2026 will primarily be for mine development and the expansion of its tailings facility, which is expected to increase capacity to 2045.

Overview
Located 400km east of Perth in Western Australia, the site was previously known as the Forrestania Operation, a nickel mining facility operated by IGO Limited. Production at the underground nickel mines, Flying Fox and Spotted Quoll, ceased in September 2024 as the operation reached the end of its economic resources, and the site was transitioned to care and maintenance. Following the acquisition by Medallion Metals in March 2026, the project was renamed the Forrestania Gold Project (FGP). It is now positioned as Medallion's long-term gold processing and development hub.

Production overview - 2023: nickel 22915 t.
Processing
The Forrestania Gold Project includes the Cosmic Boy processing plant and associated infrastructure. Medallion Metals intends to modify the existing sulphide flotation plant to process gold and copper ore from its Ravensthorpe Gold Project. The company's feasibility study for the integrated project confirmed a processing pathway using flotation and carbon-in-leach technology at the Cosmic Boy facility.
Expansion
Medallion Metals is progressing technical work to support the development of the Forrestania Gold Project as a central processing hub. This is a key component of the company's broader "Sulphide Development Strategy". A December 2024 scoping study for the integrated Ravensthorpe-Forrestania project indicated a pre-production capital requirement of $73 million, which covers mine establishment at Ravensthorpe and modifications to the Cosmic Boy processing plant. A Final Investment Decision for the integrated project was targeted for the fourth quarter of 2025.

Overview
The Rock Creek project, located approximately five miles northeast of Noxon, is a pre-development stage mine. Hecla Mining Company is not presently seeking permits for the mine's construction and is instead focused on its nearby Libby Exploration Project. The project does not have current federal authorisation to proceed. A 2021 court decision invalidated the U.S. Forest Service's approval for the mine's initial evaluation phase. The court ruled that the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service had violated the Endangered Species Act by not adequately considering the impacts of the full mine proposal on protected grizzly bears and bull trout. Should Hecla decide to seek a new permit in the future, new environmental analyses would be required. The project has faced long-standing legal challenges and opposition from environmental groups due to concerns about its potential impact on the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness, water quality, and endangered species.

Overview
The Libby Exploration Project is a stratabound sediment-hosted silver-copper deposit situated in Lincoln County, Montana. Hecla Mining Company acquired the project, formerly known as Montanore, in September 2016. In October 2025, the U.S. Forest Service issued a final decision notice and finding of no significant impact, authorising a 16-year phase of underground exploration and evaluation. This phase is designed to gather geological, hydrological, and environmental data to assess the feasibility of a future mine. The approved plan includes dewatering and rehabilitating an existing 7,000-foot adit, extending the tunnel by 4,200 feet, and constructing additional tunnels for exploration. In March 2026, a coalition of environmental groups filed a lawsuit challenging the federal approval of the project, citing concerns about the environmental review process and potential impacts on protected species and wilderness areas.
