Overview
The Kipushi zinc-copper-germanium-silver-lead mine is located approximately 30 kilometres southwest of Lubumbashi. It officially reopened on November 17, 2024, after being on care and maintenance since 1993. The restart follows an agreement between Ivanhoe Mines and the state-owned mining company Gécamines. First concentrate was produced in June 2024. The mine is the world's highest-grade major zinc operation. In addition to zinc, the concentrate contains significant quantities of germanium and gallium.
Production
Production overview - 2025: zinc 203168 t.
Processing
A new 800,000-tonne-per-annum concentrator was completed in May 2024. A debottlenecking program, which commenced engineering work in September 2024 and was completed in early August 2025, increased the concentrator's throughput capacity by 20% to 960,000 tonnes of ore per annum. The plant uses dense media separation (DMS), milling, and a flotation circuit, targeting recoveries of 96% and an average concentrate grade of 55% contained zinc. Following upgrades, the DMS circuit availability increased from approximately 70% to 96%, boosting concentrator recoveries to over 90%.
Equipment
To mitigate power supply instability, an additional six megawatts of backup generator capacity were installed in the fourth quarter of 2025, increasing total on-site backup power to 20 megawatts.
Expansion
Underground development is ongoing to access multiple production levels within the Big Zinc and Southern Zinc zones. Exploration drilling continues to identify extension targets for zinc, copper, silver and germanium.

Production
Phase 1: Once fully ramped up, it is expected to produce approximately 100,000 ounces of 3PE+Au annually, along with approximately 5 million pounds of nickel and 3 million pounds of copper. Phase 2: Annual production is expected to increase to between 450,000 and 550,000 ounces of 3PE+Au, plus approximately 9,000 tonnes of nickel and 6,000 tonnes of copper. Phase 3: Annual production to over 1 million ounces of 3PE+Au, plus approximately 22,000 tonnes of nickel and 13,000 tonnes of copper.
Processing
The Phase 1 concentrator (770,000 tpa milling capacity) was completed in Q3 2024 and began producing concentrate on November 18, 2025. First concentrate sale was in Q4 2025. Concentrator expected to reach 80% capacity by mid-2026.
Equipment
The mine's infrastructure includes multiple shafts (Shaft 1: 2.5 Mtpa hoisting capacity; Shaft 3: 5 Mtpa by April 2026; Shaft 2: 8 Mtpa planned). It uses safe, mechanised, and highly productive bulk mining methods.
Expansion
The mine is being developed in three phases. Phase 2: Project development is underway, targeting completion in the fourth quarter of 2027. This expansion will increase total processing capacity to 4.1 million tonnes per annum. Phase 3: A preliminary economic assessment covers a potential expansion to 10.7 million tonnes per annum of processing capacity.

The mine uses flotation and gravity processes to recover silver, gold, lead, and zinc. An ore concentrating mill is one of the major facilities on site. In 2024, 46% of tailings were reused as backfill.
Equipment
The mine is an underground cut-and-fill and long-hole stoping operation. Major facilities include the underground mine, a surface mill, a dry stack tailings storage facility, a wastewater treatment plant, administrative and camp facilities, a ferry dock, and a ship-loading facility.
Expansion
The U.S. Forest Service approved a five-year plan of operations for the Greens Creek Surface Exploration Project in January 2026. This surface exploration for silver, gold, lead, and zinc is expected to increase the project's reserve base and extend the mine life. Capital investment in 2026 is partly attributable to the expansion of its tailings facility, which is expected to increase tailings capacity to 2045.

Production overview - 2025: zinc 203168 t; 2024: zinc 50307 t.
Processing
The mine has a new concentrator, which was completed in May 2024. Its initial capacity was 800,000 tonnes of ore per annum. A debottlenecking program completed in 2025 increased the throughput capacity by 20% to 960,000 tonnes of ore per annum. The plant uses dense media separation, milling, and flotation.

Overview
The Platreef PGM-Nickel Mine, located in the Limpopo Province of South Africa, is a tier-one discovery of platinum-group metals, nickel, copper and gold. The mine is situated on the Northern Limb of the Bushveld Igneous Complex, approximately 280 km northeast of Johannesburg.
Production
Phase 1 involves a 770-ktpa concentrator. Phase 2 is an expansion to 4.1 Mtpa of processing capacity, expected to increase annualised production to approximately 450,000 ounces of platinum, palladium, rhodium and gold (3PE+Au), plus by-products. Phase 3 is a potential further expansion to 10.7 Mtpa, scaling up annualised production to over 1.0 million ounces of 3PE+Au, plus approximately 25,000 tonnes of nickel and 15,000 tonnes of copper.
Processing
Phase 1 involves a 770-ktpa concentrator; first production of concentrate; ramp-up of the Phase 1 concentrator; first sale of concentrate.
Expansion
The mine is being developed in three phases. Phase 1 involves a 770-ktpa concentrator which is now ramping up. Phase 2 is an expansion to 4.1 Mtpa of processing capacity, which is on track for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027. Phase 3 is a potential further expansion to 10.7 Mtpa, which has been evaluated in a Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA).

Production
Production overview - 2024: copper 437061 t; 2023: copper 393551 t.
Processing
The complex features Phase 1, 2, and 3 concentrators. As of May 2024, construction of the Phase 3 concentrator was complete, with first concentrate expected in early June 2024. The Phase 3 concentrator is expected to increase annual copper production to over 600,000 tonnes. A new 500,000-tonne-per-annum direct-to-blister copper smelter began heat-up on 21 November 2025, and achieved first anode production on 29 December 2025.
Expansion
The Phase 3 concentrator began feeding ore on 26 May 2024, months ahead of schedule. The completion of the Phase 3 expansion is expected to position Kamoa-Kakula as the world's fourth-largest copper mining complex. The 2023 Integrated Development Plan evaluates a staged increase in production capacity up to a total of 19.2 million tonnes per annum by 2030. The on-site smelter is expected to provide significant financial benefits by reducing logistics costs.
