Metallurgical testing for the Osiris deposit has confirmed viable processing paths with flotation, pre-treatment by either pressure oxidation or roasting, and cyanide leaching, with gold recoveries over 80%.
Expansion
Hecla Mining is planning a desktop review of the Rackla project in 2025, to be followed by a comprehensive exploration program in 2026. In February 2026, the company announced it would spend $55 million on exploration and pre-development activities across its projects, nearly doubling its investment from the previous year.

Overview
The Zafranal project, operated by Compañía Minera Zafranal S.A.C., is a copper-gold porphyry deposit located in the Arequipa region of southern Peru. The project is a joint venture between Teck Resources Limited, which holds an 80% interest, and Mitsubishi Materials Corporation, with the remaining 20%. As of early 2026, the project's status is under development, but it is being transitioned to "asset preservation". A decision on construction has been postponed, and early work activities were scheduled to cease in the first quarter of 2026. The project has received regulatory approval for its Environmental Impact Assessment from SENACE, Peru's National Service of Environmental Certification for Sustainable Investments. The proposed mining method is a conventional open-pit truck and shovel operation. The project plans include two pits, Zafranal and Victoria.

Processing
The mineral processing facilities use conventional grinding and sulphide flotation methods to produce zinc and lead concentrates. A pre-flotation circuit is used to remove elemental sulphur and naturally occurring organic material. Concentrates are then trucked to a port facility on the Chukchi Sea for shipping.

Expansion
Teck is actively advancing studies to extend the mine's operational life by exploring the nearby Anarraaq and Aktigiruq deposits. A decision on the economic and environmental viability of these deposits is anticipated to take approximately six years after the necessary permits are received and exploratory work begins. The growth capital expenditure for zinc in 2025 primarily relates to the construction of the all-season access road for the mine life extension project. Teck is also proposing the construction of an 8.8-megawatt solar farm at Red Dog to supplement the mine's power supply, which is currently reliant on diesel. This project aims to reduce costs and greenhouse gas emissions. The company plans to spend between $150 million and $180 million on the extension project in the current year.

Overview
The operation is a 50-50 joint venture between Mineral Resources (MinRes) and Jiangxi Ganfeng Lithium. MinRes operates the mine under a life-of-mine, build-own-operate mining services contract. In November 2025, MinRes announced it would sell a 30% stake in a new joint venture, which includes its 50% ownership of Mt Marion, to POSCO Holdings, giving POSCO an indirect 15% interest in the mine. The underground development was placed into care and maintenance in December 2024 in response to market conditions. Pending approvals, MinRes is targeting first development ore in mid-2025 and first production ore by the end of 2025.

Expansion
Construction on a flotation plant is underway to further optimise product recovery. In 2023, a major exploration campaign confirmed a significant underground resource. In early 2024, underground development contractor Develop Global commenced work on an exploration decline. The first underground development firing occurred in June 2024. In June 2025, MinRes and Ganfeng would each invest $150 million into the project to support daily operations, mine development, and processing plant upgrades amid weak market conditions.

Overview
Mineral Resources Limited (MinRes) ceased its iron ore shipments from the Yilgarn Hub at the end of the 2024 calendar year, after the operations were deemed not financially viable. The hub was subsequently transitioned to care and maintenance in early 2025. On 30 June 2025, Mineral Resources completed the sale of the Yilgarn Hub to Yilgarn Iron Investments Pty Ltd (YII). YII recommenced operations, with the first train of iron ore running in November 2025 and the first shipment of 176,000 tonnes departing the Port of Esperance in December 2025. The Yilgarn Hub consists of several mining operations, including Koolyanobbing, Carina, Parker Range, Windarling, and Deception.

Yilgarn Iron is targeting an annual export rate of more than four million tonnes.

The hub includes a central processing facility that performs conventional dry crushing and screening to produce lump and fines products. The ore is transported by road from the various mine sites to the processing plant and then hauled by rail to the Port of Esperance for export.
South West Creek Project

Overview
The South West Creek project is an integrated pit-to-port iron ore infrastructure solution centred on the development of a new export facility at the Port of Port Hedland. Mineral Resources Limited (MinRes) has entered into a Port and Rail agreement with Hancock Prospecting and Roy Hill to jointly investigate and develop the facility at Stanley Point Berth 3 (SP3). The Western Australian Government announced the new capacity allocation at SP3 for the joint venture in February 2022. Under the agreement, Roy Hill is slated to provide rail haulage and port services for the project's development and operation. The project is intended to unlock stranded iron ore deposits in the Pilbara region. Production for the South West Creek export facility is proposed to be sourced from the Marillana iron ore project, which is a 50:50 joint venture between MinRes and Brockman Mining Limited. The project remains subject to further approvals, relevant agreements, and a positive final investment decision (FID). As of early 2026, the joint venture partners continue to progress studies and approvals for the proposed infrastructure. An FID is anticipated once key access agreements and approvals are finalised.

The project is designed to have an export capacity of at least 20 million tonnes of iron ore per annum for Mineral Resources.

The mine utilises battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in its underground fleet. It is also implementing remote-controlled and autonomous technologies, including TeleRemote drilling and autonomous hauling with Sandvik TH663i trucks, supported by a 5G network covering over 140km of underground tunnels. A major development was the commissioning of a hoisting shaft extending to a depth of over 1,000 metres; as of December 2023, 100% of the ore is hoisted through this shaft.
Expansion
An investment program that ran from 2018 to 2023 included the mill expansion, the new hoisting shaft, and a new water treatment plant. In early 2023, the company signed an agreement for 100% of the electricity consumed at the mine to be produced by wind or nuclear power.
