Production overview - 2025: silver 5300000 oz; 2024: silver 4900000 oz.
Processing
The mine has a concentrator facility with a 1,000 tons of ore per day mill that produces silver-lead and zinc concentrates. These concentrates are transported by truck to a smelter in Trail, British Columbia, Canada. For the 2025 reserve calculations, actual metallurgical recoveries were 94.5% for silver, 94.3% for lead, and 85.1% for zinc.
Equipment
Primary access to the mine is via the 6,205-foot-deep Silver Shaft. A key development is the #4 Shaft, an internal shaft which extends 9,600 feet below the surface, providing access to the high-grade Gold Hunter and Lucky Friday Expansion Area deposits.
Expansion
Hecla Mining is investing up to $73 million in the operation. This capital is for underground development, a new tailings facility, and a surface cooling project critical for mining at deeper, hotter levels. The cooling project is expected to be completed by mid-2026. The mine uses a patented Underhand Closed Bench (UCB) mining method, which has significantly improved safety and productivity in the deep, narrow veins. In 2025, 88% of the tons mined were produced using the UCB method.

The mine has a fully permitted 400 tonne per day mill that produces silver, lead, and zinc concentrates. The company is working towards a permitted throughput of 440 tons per day over the next couple of years. A backfill plant has been constructed and was being commissioned as of early 2026.
Expansion
Hecla Mining Company is focusing on resource conversion and expansion in the Bermingham Bear Zone. Exploration for 2026 includes three surface diamond drills testing a high-potential vein intersection northeast of the Deep Bermingham ore body. The exploration and pre-development budget for Hecla in 2026 is approximately $55 million, with Keno Hill accounting for 27% of this budget. The company anticipates an additional 50 million ounces of silver potential at Keno Hill. Hecla has a medium-term goal of producing up to 20 million ounces of silver company-wide, with growth fueled by the expansion of Keno Hill.

Processing
A new concentrator with a capacity of 800,000 tonnes per annum was completed in May 2024 and first concentrate was produced in June 2024. The plant incorporates dense media separation, milling, and flotation. A debottlenecking program was completed in August 2025, increasing the concentrator throughput capacity by 20% to 960,000 tonnes of ore per annum.
Expansion
Ivanhoe Mines and its state-owned partner Gécamines signed a new joint venture agreement in late 2023 to return the mine to production. Construction of the new concentrator began in September 2022. In July 2025, a three-year offtake agreement was signed with Mercuria for up to one-third of the unallocated offtake of zinc concentrate.

Production
The Phase 1 concentrator began operations in late 2025. The first sale of concentrate was completed to Northam Platinum in the fourth quarter of 2025. The concentrator is ramping up and is expected to reach approximately 80% of its nameplate capacity by mid-2026. It is initially processing lower-grade development ore, with higher-grade ore to be introduced in the second quarter of 2026.
Processing
The mine uses a concentrator to process ore. The Phase 1 concentrator has a milling capacity of 770,000 tonnes per annum (ktpa). Development ore is hoisted via Shaft 1 and stockpiled on the surface. The orebody is described as high-grade, thick, and flat-lying, which is suited to large-scale, mechanised mining. The platinum-to-palladium ratio is approximately 1-to-1.
Equipment
The mine's infrastructure includes multiple shafts. Shaft 1 is used for initial hoisting. Shaft 3 is expected to be operational by April 2026, increasing the mine's hoisting capacity five-fold to 5 million tonnes per annum. The larger Shaft 2 is being developed to support future expansions, with hoisting targeted from Q3 2028. The mining method is described as safe, mechanised, and highly productive bulk mining.
Expansion
The mine is being developed in multiple phases. Phase 1 commenced production in Q4 2025. Phase 2 development is underway and is targeted for completion in Q4 2027. This phase includes a new 3.3-million-tonne-per-annum (Mtpa) concentrator module, which will increase total processing capacity to 4.1 Mtpa. The Phase 2 expansion is expected to increase annual production to over 450,000 ounces of platinum, palladium, rhodium, and gold (3PE+Au), plus more than 30 million pounds of nickel and copper. A Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) has been completed for a potential Phase 3 expansion to 10.7 Mtpa. This would further increase annual production to over 1.0 million ounces of 3PE+Au, plus approximately 22,000 tonnes of nickel and 13,000 tonnes of copper.

The complex utilises underground mining and flotation processing with its Phase 1, 2, and 3 concentrators. The Phase 3 concentrator began commercial production in the third quarter of 2024. A new on-site, 500,000 tonnes-per-annum direct-to-blister copper smelter, the largest in Africa, commenced heat-up on 21 November 2025 and produced its first copper anode on 29 December 2025.
Equipment
The mining fleet is undergoing electrification.
Expansion
The mine plan for 2026 and 2027 has been refocused on developing long-term infrastructure to support future productivity. The company now targets annualised copper production to exceed 500,000 tonnes from 2028 onwards. A March 2026 technical report outlines a Mineral Reserve of 0.5 billion tonnes at a grade of 2.82% copper and an Indicated Mineral Resource of 1.3 billion tonnes at a grade of 2.65% copper, which supports a multi-decade mine life and a potential Phase 4 expansion. Capital expenditure guidance for 2026 is between $1.10 billion and $1.40 billion, which includes underspend from 2025. Capital expenditure guidance for 2027 is set at $750 million to $950 million.

Overview
The Lake Mackay Project is a large-scale, underexplored tenement package considered prospective for a range of deposit styles, including copper-gold-silver, nickel-cobalt-manganese, and orogenic gold. Exploration activities, including drilling, are ongoing. In May 2022, IGO and Prodigy Gold restructured their agreement, resulting in Prodigy Gold holding a majority interest in the gold tenements, while IGO retains the majority share of the base metal tenements. Recent exploration has focused on several prospects, including Phreaker (copper-gold), Arcee (gold), and Goldbug (gold). Drilling at the Phreaker prospect in 2022 and 2023 returned encouraging polymetallic results.

Overview
The Silver Valley / Star mine, also known as the Star Mine or historically as the Star-Morning Mine, is a past-producing underground silver, lead, and zinc mine. It was the deepest in the United States, reaching a depth of 7,900 feet. Hecla Mining Company shut down operations in 1982. The mine is currently inactive but considered a pre-development project, with studies initiated in 2011 to evaluate reopening and exploration programs conducted in 2011-2012.
Production
In 2011, drilling resulted in a resource calculation of 3.8 million ounces of silver, in addition to lead and zinc. As of the end of 2025, indicated and inferred resources were reported using a net smelter return cut-off of $280 per ton and a minimum mining width of 4.3 feet, with metallurgical recovery rates of 93% for silver, 93% for lead, and 87% for zinc.
