Workforce
The Esterhazy complex employs approximately 1,200 people.
Overview
The Mosaic Company's Esterhazy K1, K2, and K3 sites in Saskatchewan, Canada, form a single integrated potash mining operation, the largest of its kind globally. The operation is transitioning to the new K3 mine, which will replace the older K1 and K2 mines. Underground mining at K1 and K2 was suspended in June 2021 due to brine inflows, accelerating the transition to K3. The K3 mine, completed in 2022, is a world-class operation and represents the future of Mosaic's potash production in the region.
Production
The integrated Esterhazy operation has a total nameplate capacity of 7.8 million tonnes of potash annually. The K3 mine alone is expected to have a hoisting capacity of 21 million tonnes of ore per year. In 2025, the broader Mosaic potash operations, including Esterhazy, produced 8.8 million tonnes.
Processing
Ore from the K3 mine is transported via an overland conveyor system to the existing K1 and K2 mills for processing. The processed potash includes products such as Ag White, Crystal, Granular, and Standard Muriate of Potash (MOP).
Equipment
The mine utilises thirteen automated mining machines.
Expansion
The K3 mine development was a significant expansion, representing a C$3 billion investment and the first new underground potash mine in Saskatchewan in over 50 years. This project included the construction of two headframes, with the North K3 headframe being the tallest structure in Saskatchewan. In 2024, the Esterhazy Hydrofloat project was announced to enable further production of 400,000 tonnes of MOP.
