The project is expected to employ over 7,500 people during peak construction and create around 3,500 direct long-term jobs once in production.
Production
Production overview - 2024: copper 7.3 Mt, gold 13 Moz.
Processing
Processing facilities will produce a high-quality copper-gold concentrate. The development is planned in two phases with a combined process capacity of 90 million tonnes per annum. The concentrate produced will be transported by rail to Port Qasim in Karachi.
Equipment
The mine will be a truck-and-shovel operation.
Expansion
The reconstitution of the Reko Diq project was completed in December 2022. An updated feasibility study was set to be finished by the end of 2024, with technical reports filed in February 2025. The Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) has been approved by government authorities. In early 2026, Barrick announced it was slowing development activity and extending a project review until mid-2027 due to escalating security issues in the region. This is expected to impact the previously stated budgets and timeline, which had targeted first production by the end of 2028. The estimated capital cost for Phase 1 was previously disclosed as between $5.6 billion and $6.0 billion, with Phase 2 estimated between $3.3 billion and $3.6 billion, though Barrick has warned of potential significant increases.

Overview
The Rock Creek project is a stratabound sediment-hosted silver-copper deposit. Hecla Mining Company is not currently engaged in permitting activities for the Rock Creek mine. This decision is influenced by a history of legal challenges from non-governmental organisations, with litigation expected to resume if permitting activities were to recommence. The company's focus has shifted to obtaining the necessary permits for underground exploration and evaluation at its nearby Libby Exploration Project. After acquiring the project in 2015, Hecla withdrew the existing plan of operations inherited from the previous owner. No new plan of operations has been submitted, and no activities beyond care and maintenance are currently planned for the Rock Creek project, though Hecla will retain its mineral and other property rights.

Overview
The Libby Exploration Project, formerly known as the Montanore Mine, is an underground silver and copper exploration project. It is located approximately 20 aerial miles south of Libby in Lincoln County, Montana. Hecla Mining Company has received approval for its Plan of Operation from the U.S. Forest Service, allowing for underground exploration and evaluation activities. The exploration project is planned to be conducted over approximately 16 years, a period that includes post-reclamation monitoring. The next steps for the project include the dewatering and rehabilitation of about 7,000 feet of the existing Libby Adit, followed by an extension of nearly a mile to facilitate exploration from underground drill stations. As of early 2026, Hecla is in the process of obtaining a new Montana Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (MPDES) permit from the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to manage water discharge during the exploration. The previous 2006 permit is proposed to be terminated. In April 2026, it was reported that a lawsuit has been filed against the U.S. Forest Service by six groups concerned about the potential environmental impacts of the exploration project on the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness Area, particularly on water quality and endangered species. No mining is currently proposed. The ongoing activities are focused on collecting data to determine the economic viability and technical aspects of a potential future mine. If the exploration proves feasible, a new Plan of Operations for a full-scale mine would need to be submitted, which would trigger a separate and new permitting process.
Expansion
The exploration project is planned to be conducted over approximately 16 years, a period that includes post-reclamation monitoring. The next steps for the project include the dewatering and rehabilitation of about 7,000 feet of the existing Libby Adit, followed by an extension of nearly a mile to facilitate exploration from underground drill stations.

The project's land package covers 3,583 acres, which includes all major historically productive trends in the Republic mining district such as Knob Hill, Surprise, Lone Pine-Last Chance, Tom Thumb, and Golden Promise. The Republic district is noted as Washington's largest historical gold producer. Hecla is undertaking a modern exploration approach at the site, which involves integrating historical datasets with 3D modelling and contemporary exploration techniques. The company has reported that recent exploration has confirmed multiple high-grade gold intercepts, which indicate potential for both underground and bulk-tonnage discoveries. A key geological feature of the project is the significant prospective terrain that is concealed by post-mineral cover, which expands the exploration search area. Historically, the area hosted the Knob Hill mine, which Hecla acquired in 1981. Operations were extended by the discovery of the Golden Promise orebody, with the last reported production occurring in 1995. Following the cessation of mining, the mill was dismantled in 1996. The Washington State Department of Ecology lists the former "Hecla Knob Hill Mine" as awaiting cleanup, with Hecla continuing long-term mine water management and treatment activities at the site.
