The workforce in 2023 consisted of 8 employees, with another source stating 137 workers.
Overview
The Midas mine is a high-grade, underground gold and silver mine located in Elko County, Nevada, fully owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company through its subsidiary, Klondex Midas Operations Inc. The project is situated on a land package of approximately 30,000 acres and is recognised as the largest known gold-silver epithermal deposit along the Northern Nevada Rift.
Production
Historically, the mine has produced 2.2 million ounces of gold and 27 million ounces of silver. Production in 2018 was 422 kg of gold, and in 2017 it was 51,785.91 oz of gold. A 2020-2021 Sinter discovery reported an inferred resource of 169,000 ounces of gold and 1.7 million ounces of silver.
Processing
The site is equipped with a fully permitted Merrill-Crowe processing facility, which includes a conventional mill with a capacity of 1,200 tonnes per day. The processing circuit involves crushing, grinding, gravity separation, cyanide leaching, and a Merrill-Crowe recovery circuit to produce doré bullion. The mill has also been used to process ore from other Hecla mines in the region. The infrastructure includes a crushing plant, a refinery, a cyanide destruction circuit, and two tailings impoundments. Mining methods previously employed include cut and fill, longhole stoping, and drift and fill.
Equipment
Underground equipment includes Tamrock and Caterpillar loaders, Caterpillar haul trucks, and Sandvik and Atlas Copco jumbo drills.
Expansion
Hecla Mining is actively engaged in significant exploration activities to de-risk a potential restart of operations. The company nearly doubled its exploration and pre-development budget for its Nevada projects to $55 million for 2026, following a $25.2 million investment in exploration and $2.5 million in pre-development in 2025. A 2025 drilling program confirmed mineralised structures in five of six targets, leading to high-grade gold discoveries at the previously untested Pogo Trend and the Sinter Vein Extension. Follow-up drilling in 2026 yielded another high-grade intercept of 0.46 oz/ton gold and 0.9 oz/ton silver over 6.1 feet. The company is evaluating the existing infrastructure for refurbishment, which would allow for a restart with a significantly lower capital intensity.

Overview
The Fire Creek Mine, located in Lander County, Nevada, is operated by Hecla Mining Company. It has been on care and maintenance since the second quarter of 2021, after processing the remaining non-refractory ore stockpile. As part of Hecla's Nevada portfolio, the Fire Creek property is undergoing a reassessment in 2025 to re-rank its priority within the company's assets. Hecla continues to evaluate the potential for a restart based on exploration success and future development. The mine has historical production from both high-grade epithermal veins and structurally controlled refractory sulfide mineralisation.

As of December 31, 2025, Lumwana employs approximately 3,260 employees and 6,400 contractors. 98% of the workforce are Zambian nationals. The expansion is expected to require an additional 550 workers over five years and 2,500 construction workers for a three-year period to 2028.
Overview
The Lumwana mine is in production, and the Super Pit Expansion is under construction. The expansion is expected to double the mine's annual copper production to a life-of-mine average of 240,000 tonnes, with first production from the expansion scheduled for 2028.
Production
Production overview - 2025: copper 151000 t.
Processing
The ore is treated through a conventional sulphide flotation plant to produce copper concentrate. The expansion includes twinning the existing process circuit, which will increase plant throughput from the current 27 million tonnes per annum to 52 million tonnes per annum. Commissioning of the new process plant is planned to start in the second half of 2027.
Equipment
The mine utilises a conventional truck and shovel fleet. A phased transition to cable electric-powered shovels is planned for completion in 2031, and in-pit crushing and conveying are part of the new mine design. Long-lead equipment, including mills and crushers, has been ordered for the expansion.
Expansion
The feasibility study for the Super Pit Expansion was expected to be completed by the end of 2024, with construction starting in 2025. Site construction is underway, and long-lead equipment orders have been placed. The project also includes the development of critical infrastructure such as a new regional airstrip and an industrial supplier park. A technical report for the Lumwana Expansion Project, in accordance with National Instrument 43-101, was filed on February 19, 2025.

Expansion
Development is planned in two phases, with a combined processing capacity of 90 million tonnes per annum. Phase 1 is designed for a throughput of approximately 40-45 million tonnes per annum, with Phase 2 expected to double this capacity. A potential Phase 2 expansion could increase copper production to 400,000 tonnes per year. The reconstitution of the project was completed in December 2022. In March 2026, Barrick announced it was slowing development activity and extending the project's review period by 12 months from July 2026, citing security concerns in the region. This decision is expected to affect previously stated budgets and timelines.

The Long Canyon Project facility is permitted to process up to 5 million tons of ore annually. The processing method is a heap leach facility with a carbon-in-column plant. Lower-grade run-of-mine oxide ore is leached on a synthetically lined heap leach pad. Loaded carbon was to be transported offsite for final processing into doré.
Expansion
On 1 July 2019, the Long Canyon mine was contributed to Nevada Gold Mines LLC, a joint venture between Barrick Gold Corporation and Newmont Corporation, with Barrick as the operator. Mining operations were temporarily ceased in 2022. At the end of 2023, the mine was placed on long-term care and maintenance and is producing residual ounces from the leach pad. In the fourth quarter of 2024, Barrick made the decision to place the mine in closure. In March 2024, it was announced that Nevada Gold Mines would not pursue permitting for the Phase 2 expansion of the mine.
