As of May 2025, the project employed over 1,800 people. Accommodation is provided at the 500-room Mungala Resort at Ken's Bore, offering rooms three times the size of traditional fly-in, fly-out accommodation.
Overview
The Onslow Iron project is an operating open-pit iron ore mine located approximately 150 kilometres east of Onslow in the West Pilbara region of Western Australia. Operated by Mineral Resources (MinRes) on behalf of the Red Hill Iron Joint Venture, which includes Baowu, AMCI, and POSCO, the project unlocks previously stranded iron ore deposits such as Ken's Bore, Upper Cane, and Cardo Bore East. MinRes holds a 57% ownership share and 100% of the project's infrastructure.
Production
First ore was shipped in May 2024. The project was expected to reach its nameplate capacity of 35 million tonnes per annum by June 2025. For the 2025 fiscal year, 14 million tonnes were shipped. In the first half of the 2025-2026 financial year, a yearly production rate of 35 million tonnes was maintained.
Processing
The project employs an innovative dust-free pit-to-ship supply chain. Mining involves conventional drill and blast, followed by crushing in three NextGen modular plants. Ore is then transported 150 kilometres by autonomous road trains from Ken's Bore to the Port of Ashburton. At the port, ore is stored in a 220,000-tonne capacity shed before being loaded onto shallow-draft transhippers, which transport it 40 kilometres offshore to larger ocean-going vessels.
Equipment
The project utilises three in-house designed NextGen modular crushing plants. Ore is transported by a fleet of 120 autonomous 320-tonne jumbo road trains. A fleet of 20,000-tonne capacity shallow-draft transhippers move ore 40 kilometres offshore to larger ocean-going vessels.

Overview
The Rock Creek project is an underground silver and copper mine currently in a state of care and maintenance. Hecla Mining Company acquired the project in June 2015 through its acquisition of Revett Mining Company. While the project is under development, Hecla is not currently seeking permits for its construction. The company has previously withdrawn the Plan of Operations for Rock Creek from consideration by the United States Forest Service (USFS). Legal challenges have also impacted the project's progression, with a 2021 court ruling invalidating the USFS's approval of the mine's Phase I evaluation adit due to violations of the Endangered Species Act. As a result, the Rock Creek mine currently has no federal authorisation to proceed. In September 2022, RC Resources, a subsidiary of Hecla, requested that the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) allow its Montana Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (MPDES) permit to expire, stating that none of the permitted outfalls had been constructed. Despite the current status, Hecla Mining continues to report inferred mineral resources for the project.
