The Black Butte Copper Project is an undeveloped, high-grade copper project located in Meagher County, central Montana, USA. Sandfire Resources holds an 87% indirect interest in the project. It is fully permitted and moving towards construction once a final investment decision is made, with a new pre-feasibility study underway.
Production
Expected to produce approximately 35,000 tonnes of contained copper per year for the first four years of operation, with an average of 29,000 tonnes annually over an initial eight-year mine life.
Processing
Run-of-mine ore is transported from underground via haul trucks to a primary crushing area, then crushed by a jaw crusher, ground, and processed through a froth flotation circuit to produce copper concentrate. A conventional 1.2 million tonnes per annum processing plant is planned.

Overview
The Kayelekera Uranium Mine, formerly operated by Paladin Energy, was on care and maintenance from 2014. Australian-based company Lotus Resources acquired an 85% interest in the project in 2020 and is the current operator, with the Government of Malawi holding the remaining 15%. Lotus restarted production at Kayelekera in August 2025. The mine is currently ramping up production, with the first blast in the open pit occurring in November 2025 to supplement ore stockpiles. The operation is on track to achieve a steady-state production level of 2.4 million pounds of U3O8 per annum in the second quarter of 2026. The restart is based on a 10-year mine life.
Production
The mine historically produced approximately 11 million pounds of U3O8 between 2009 and 2014. The targeted steady-state production rate following the restart is 2.4 million pounds of U3O8 per annum.
Processing
The operation uses shallow open pit mining with a low strip ratio. The processing plant utilises a debottlenecked flowsheet consisting of traditional milling, acid leach and resin-in-pulp (RIP) circuits. An on-site acid plant is being commissioned to support production.
Expansion
Lotus Resources completed a Definitive Feasibility Study for the restart in August 2022. In October 2024, the company announced an Accelerated Restart Plan with an initial capital expenditure of US$50 million. A Mine Development Agreement was signed with the Government of Malawi in July 2024, which provides a stable fiscal regime for 10 years. First yellowcake production from the restart was achieved in August 2025, on time and on budget.
