Overview
The Flying Fox mine is an underground nickel mine located at the Forrestania Nickel Project, approximately 400 kilometres east of Perth in Western Australia. It was one of the two primary mines, along with the Spotted Quoll mine, that constituted Western Areas Ltd's Forrestania operations.
Production
In the 2021 financial year, the Forrestania operations, which included Flying Fox, produced over 16,000 tonnes of nickel in concentrate. For the quarter ending 31 December 2021, production from the broader Forrestania operation was 4,025 tonnes of nickel in concentrate.
Processing
The ore from the mine was processed at the nearby Cosmic Boy Concentrator. This plant utilises a conventional flotation technology to produce nickel concentrate. The processing infrastructure at the Cosmic Boy Concentrator includes a three-stage crusher circuit, a single circuit ball mill, flotation tanks, and a thickening and filtration system.
