Workforce
As of October 2021, the exploration drilling and feasibility work for the Bima-Arjuna deposits, part of the broader Toka Tindung operation, employed over 250 professional staff and local people.
Overview
The Toka Tindung Gold Mine is primarily an open-pit operation, with an underground mining component in development. The open pits include the active Toka, Araren, and Kopra pits, with the Alaskar, Talawaan, and Marawuwung pits in pre-production. An inaugural blast for underground mining at the Kopra pit occurred on 5 December 2024, marking the commencement of its underground development.
Production
2012: 134,000 ounces of gold (first full year of commercial production). 2018: 269,900 ounces of gold. 2019: 261,300 ounces of gold. 2020: 206,800 ounces of gold. 2023: 123,300 ounces of gold. 2024: 93,400 ounces of gold. Q1-Q3 2025: 90,000 ounces of gold. Total Production (2011-2020): Approximately 1.9 million ounces of gold.
Processing
Ore from the various pits is processed through a conventional Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) processing plant. The plant's flowsheet includes a single-stage gyratory crusher, a crushed ore stockpile, and a CIL circuit. The processing plant had an initial capacity of 1.7 million tonnes per annum in 2011. This was expanded to 3.6 million tonnes per annum by 2020, and further optimisation is ongoing to increase the capacity to 4.0 Mtpa.
Equipment
The mine utilises a large fleet for its operations. The main mining contractor, PT Geopersada Mulia Abadi (PT GMA), operates a fleet with the capacity to mine approximately 45 million tonnes of material per annum. To manage its extensive fleet, the mine has implemented the Hexagon OP Pro fleet management system to optimise haulage and the OAS system to monitor and reduce operator fatigue. This has resulted in a 28% increase in truck productivity and a 31% reduction in fuel consumption. The operation is supported by the Rundor Port, located six kilometres from the mine site, which is used for the importation of large equipment.
Expansion
Further optimisation is ongoing to increase the processing capacity to 4.0 Mtpa. There are plans to potentially expand the processing capacity to 8.0 million tonnes per year by the end of 2025.
