Overview
The Mount Weld Mine is a high-grade, long-life resource and is considered one of the world's premier rare earths deposits. The deposit is located within a two billion-year-old volcanic plug and contains both Light and Heavy Rare Earth elements. Mining operations began at the site in 2011.
Production
Production overview - 2026: rare earth elements 3233 t; 2025: rare earth elements 2080 t.
Processing
Ore mined from the Mount Weld deposit is processed on-site at a concentration plant. The processes include crushing, grinding, flotation, and filtration to produce a mixed rare earths concentrate. This concentrate is then transported to Lynas' Kalgoorlie facility for cracking and leaching, or shipped to the Lynas Malaysia refinery for separation and production of finished rare earths products.
Equipment
upscaled processing equipment
Expansion
approximately $500 million project to expand the capacity at the Mount Weld mine and concentration plant. The expansion aims to increase feedstock production capacity to the equivalent of 12,000 tonnes per annum of NdPr by 2024. The expansion includes upscaled processing equipment and efficiency improvements. The project is being carried out on the existing Mt Weld tenure.
