Overview
The Spotted Quoll mine is an underground nickel mine located in Western Australia. It is part of the Forrestania Nickel Operation, situated approximately 400 kilometres east of Perth and 80 kilometres east-southeast of Hyden in the Shire of Kondinin.
Production
For the 2022-23 financial year, the Forrestania Operation, which includes Spotted Quoll, produced 11,931 tonnes of nickel. In the 2023-24 financial year, production was 7,571 tonnes of nickel.
Processing
Ore from Spotted Quoll was processed at the nearby Cosmic Boy concentrator. The processing method involves a three-stage crushing circuit, a single circuit ball mill, and flotation tanks to produce a nickel concentrate. The concentrate is then dewatered through thickening and filtration. The Cosmic Boy facility has a treatment capacity of up to 600,000 tonnes of ore per year. In 2018, a Mill Recovery Enhancement Project involving nickel bio-leaching was added to the plant to process partially oxidised ores.
