Overview
The Nova-Bollinger mine, officially known as the Nova Operation, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of IGO Limited. It is located in the Fraser Range of Western Australia, approximately 160 kilometres east-northeast of Norseman. The Ngadju People are the Traditional Owners of the land where the mine is situated. Commercial production at the underground mine commenced in July 2017. The operation is scheduled to reach its end of life by late 2026, with IGO planning to transition from operations directly into mine closure. A final Mine Closure Plan is anticipated to be submitted to the Western Australian government in mid-2026. The mine consists of two orebodies, Nova and Bollinger, which are now recognised as a single continuous deposit.

Overview
The development plan involves a two-stage construction of an open pit mine and a process plant. Stage one is designed for the lowest capital cost and shortest payback period. Stage two will be an expansion, with the investment decision expected between 2031-2033. The ultimate processing capacity is planned to be 14Mtpa. The processing flowsheet will produce two smelter-grade concentrates (a copper concentrate and a nickel concentrate) and a palladium-platinum-gold doré.
Production
Production overview - 2025: nickel 7000 t, copper 8000 t, cobalt 700 t.
Processing
The processing flowsheet will produce two smelter-grade concentrates (a copper concentrate and a nickel concentrate) and a palladium-platinum-gold doré. A hydrometallurgical process is no longer required.
Expansion
The Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) covers an initial 23-year open-pit mine life, which exploits about half of the Gonneville resource. There is significant potential for expansion through deeper open-pit mining or a large-scale underground operation beyond 2054. Stage two will be an expansion, with the investment decision expected between 2031-2033.

Nickel
Workforce
The transition to care and maintenance has impacted the workforce, with IGO undertaking a resourcing plan that included some redundancies and potential redeployment opportunities. The exact size of the current workforce has not been specified.
Overview
The Cosmos Project is situated 30 kilometres north of Leinster in Western Australia. As of 31 May 2024, the project transitioned into care and maintenance due to a reduced expected life of mine, production delays, increased costs, and deteriorating nickel prices. IGO aims to restart operations if market conditions improve and will evaluate exploration programs.
Production
nickel: 1734 t
Processing
The Cosmos processing plant was undergoing an upgrade to increase its throughput capacity, initially from 450,000 tonnes per annum to 900,000 tonnes per annum, and then to 1.1 million tonnes per annum. The upgraded circuit includes new primary, secondary, and tertiary crushing and screening, a new primary mill, refurbished secondary and regrind mills, and new and refurbished flotation and thickening circuits. Commissioning of the plant commenced in October 2023.

Workforce
Approximately 1,200 employees as of May 2020. In February 2024, parent company Anglo American Platinum announced plans for job cuts across its businesses, but stated that reductions at Unki would be minimal.
Production
Total platinum group metal (PGM) production in 2023 was 243,800 ounces, a 5% increase from 2022. PGM production for the first quarter of 2025 was 53,600 ounces, a 15% decline from the same period in 2024, attributed to lower ore grades and planned maintenance. In the third quarter of 2025, total PGM production was 57,500 ounces. For the fourth quarter of 2024, PGM output was 60,300 ounces.
Processing
The operation includes a concentrator plant and a smelter. A debottlenecking project for the concentrator was completed and commissioned at the end of 2021, increasing the throughput capacity to 210,000 tonnes per month. A US$62 million smelter was commissioned in May 2019. The smelter produces a furnace matte from the concentrate, which is then crushed and transported to a converter facility in Rustenburg, South Africa, for further processing.
Equipment
The mine is a fully mechanised, trackless, underground operation using a bord-and-pillar mining method.
Expansion
In 2025, the mine planned to invest US$700,000, with US$500,000 allocated to open-pit expansion and US$200,000 for solar projects. Construction of the first phase of a 10MW solar PV plant is planned for 2025 and 2026, with a potential full capacity of 25-30MW.
