679,245 ounces of 4E PGM for the year ending 31 December 2024; combined fresh ore milling capacity of approximately 600,000 tonnes per month.
Processing
Ore mined at Marikana is processed through four of the eight available concentrators, which have a combined fresh ore milling capacity of approximately 600,000 tonnes per month. The resulting concentrate is sent to the on-site smelter, which has five furnaces, to produce a sulphide-rich matte. This matte undergoes further processing at the Base Metal Refinery (BMR) where nickel and copper are extracted. The final PGM-rich product is then sent to the Precious Metal Refinery (PMR) in Brakpan for final treatment to produce refined precious metals.

Overview
The Obi Island industrial area in North Maluku, Indonesia, hosts a large, integrated nickel processing operation owned and operated by PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (Harita Nickel). It comprises multiple Rotary Kiln Electric Furnace (RKEF) smelters for producing ferronickel from saprolite ore, and High-Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) plants for processing limonite ore into electric vehicle battery materials. The complex is located in the Kawasi village area and has been designated a National Strategic Project.
Production
The first RKEF smelter (MSP) has been operational since 2017 with a production capacity of 25,000 tonnes of nickel content in ferronickel per year. The second RKEF smelter (HJF) commenced operations in 2023 with an installed capacity of 95,000 tonnes of ferronickel per year.
Processing
The facility uses Rotary Kiln Electric Furnace (RKEF) technology to convert high-grade saprolite nickel ore into ferronickel. Additionally, High-Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) plants process low-grade limonite ore into materials for electric vehicle batteries. Nickel slag, a by-product from the RKEF smelters, is recycled to produce materials like bricks and concrete mix for use within the operational area.
