Workforce
As of 2024, the Pinos Altos workforce is 100% Mexican, with 57% local to the region. In 2017, the workforce was approximately 1,200 people, following an earlier figure of over 728 permanent employees in 2009.
Overview
The Pinos Altos mine in Chihuahua, Mexico, is an operating gold and silver mine owned by Agnico Eagle Mines Limited. It uses a combination of underground and open pit methods, transitioning to primarily underground. The Reyna del Plata open pit concluded production in late 2024, with the underground Cubiro deposit commencing production.
Production
In 2017, the mine produced 229,243 ounces of gold. The mine life is estimated to continue until at least 2028.
Processing
Pinos Altos employs conventional milling for higher-grade ore, which includes crushing, grinding, gravity concentration, and agitated leaching, with a capacity of 5,500 tonnes per day. Lower-grade ore is processed via heap leaching. Gold and silver are recovered using the Merrill-Crowe method, producing doré bars on-site. Filtered tailings are used for underground backfilling.
Equipment
Key equipment at Pinos Altos includes a Sandvik DL411 electro-hydraulic longhole drill rig, Sandvik rock bolters and cable bolters, Schwing Bioset KSP 140 and KSP 220 piston pumps, as well as shovels and trucks.
Expansion
Exploration activities are ongoing, focusing on the Pinos Altos Deep project and other targets below existing mineralisation to convert resources into reserves and extend the mine's life. The 2024 exploration budget was approximately $4.6 million for 20,700 metres of drilling, and 16,365 metres of drilling was completed in 2025. Operations at the Reyna de Plata East open pit are planned to commence in late 2027.

Workforce
The mine employs approximately 220 Tahltans. An older source stated nearly 500 people are employed in total.
Production
For the 2024 calendar year, total production was 85,320,618 pounds of copper and 59,811 ounces of gold. Production for the 2023 calendar year was 57,051,467 pounds of copper and 46,046 ounces of gold. Newmont's guidance for 2025 is 88 million pounds of copper and 86,000 ounces of gold.
Processing
The processing plant uses a primary gyratory crusher, a semi-autogenous (SAG) mill, ball mill, and pebble crushing (SABC) comminution circuit. This is followed by a sequential flotation recovery circuit to produce a saleable gold-copper concentrate. The plant will be upgraded to support the underground operation, including a parallel single-stage SAG grinding circuit and additional flotation capacity.
Equipment
The mining fleet includes conventional truck and shovel methods. Specific equipment includes Sandvik Leopard™ DI650i and Sandvik DR412i blasthole drills, P&H 2800 electric cable shovels, and Caterpillar 793 and 785D haul trucks. The future underground block cave operation will require a new fleet of equipment, including jumbos, cablebolters, shotcrete machines, and agitator trucks.
Expansion
A major expansion to an underground block cave operation is being studied and is anticipated to extend the mine's life by more than a decade. A feasibility study for the block cave expansion is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.

The Schaft Creek Project is one of North America's largest undeveloped porphyry copper-gold-molybdenum-silver deposits. A Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) with an effective date of 10 September 2021 outlined a 21-year mine life. The project is currently in the scoping stage, with ongoing programs to de-risk technical components and collect data to support the transition to a PFS. Planned expenditures for these programs were C$18.7 million in 2024, C$15.8 million in 2025, and C$9.1 million in 2026. The initial capital expenditure was estimated in the 2021 PEA at US$2.65 billion, with sustaining costs of US$848.7 million.
Production
Production overview - 2021: copper 5000000000 lbs, gold 3700000 oz, molybdenum 226000000 lbs, silver 16400000 oz.
Processing
The proposed processing method involves conventional crushing, milling and flotation to produce a concentrate. Coarse particle flotation test work has been initiated to assess the potential for optimising the milling process.

Workforce
In 2019, the Young-Davidson operation sustained 817 full-time equivalent employees at the local level.
Overview
The Young-Davidson Mine is a large, low-cost, bulk tonnage underground gold mine located in north-eastern Ontario, Canada, near Matachewan, within the Abitibi Greenstone Belt.
Production
Production in 2025 was 153,400 ounces of gold. The guidance for 2026 projects gold production to be between 155,000 and 175,000 ounces.
Processing
The processing plant has a capacity of 8,000 tonnes per day. The process involves a single-stage semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) circuit, followed by flotation. The flotation concentrate is then further ground and leached in a carbon-in-leach (CIL) circuit. The flotation tailings are also leached in a separate CIL circuit. Gold is recovered from the carbon, followed by electro-winning and the pouring of doré bars. The tailings are treated using the SO2/Air cyanide destruction method. The facility also includes a paste backfill plant that can supply over 8,000 tonnes per day of paste to the underground workings.
Equipment
The equipment fleet includes large, modern machinery. Scooptrams are used to load and haul ore to an ore pass system. In 2024, the mine took delivery of two Cat R2900 XE diesel-electric loaders, which replaced two R2900G XTRA loaders and one R1700 loader. Ore is hoisted to the surface in two 24.5-tonne skips in the Northgate shaft.
Expansion
A multi-year expansion of the lower mine infrastructure was completed in July 2020.

Processing
The project will use a conventional process flow sheet with jaw crushing, SAG and ball mill grinding, and flotation to produce separate copper, zinc, and lead concentrates. Approximately 50% of the tailings will be used as underground fill. The mine will also feature a double-lined dewatered (dry-stack) tailings storage facility.
Expansion
The Antler Copper Project is advancing through its permitting phase. The Mine Plan of Operations (MPO) submitted to the US Bureau of Land Management is the only federal permit required and is being evaluated under an Environmental Assessment, with a decision expected in early 2026. Arizona State mine permits are anticipated to be issued progressively throughout 2025. The project is on track to be fully permitted by the first quarter of 2026. A Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) was expected to be completed as early as Q4 2025. Construction activities are targeted to begin in the second half of 2025, with concentrate shipping forecast to start by 2027. An updated Mineral Resource Estimate was released in May 2025, reporting a total resource of 14.2 million tonnes at 3.8% copper equivalent.
