Production
Production overview - 2020: gold 324277 oz.
Processing
The mine uses conventional open-pit methods and recovers gold via four independent processing operations: crushed ore leaching on a reusable pad, run-of-mine ore leaching on dedicated pads, milling, and a gravity concentration circuit. Most ore is heap leached. Higher-grade oxide ore is crushed before being placed on the reusable leach pad, while lower-grade ore is placed on dedicated pads. Higher-grade sulphide ores undergo gravity and flotation concentration, with the concentrate leached in the mill. The mill has a capacity of 10,000 tonnes per day and will process ore from the Phase X underground mine concurrently with open-pit and stockpile material. Final products include high-grade gold and silver concentrates processed in a refinery furnace, and gold and silver cyanide solutions treated at an Adsorption, Desorption, and Reactivation (ADR) facility.

Overview
The LaRonde Complex is an active, producing operation located in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region of northwestern Quebec, Canada. It consists of the underground LaRonde mine and the underground LaRonde Zone 5 (LZ5) mine. Commercial production at the LaRonde mine began in 1988, and at LZ5 in 2018. The complex has produced over 8 million ounces of gold to date.
Production
Production overview - 2023: gold 306648 oz, silver 617000 oz, zinc 11000 t, copper 3000 t.
Processing
The LaRonde mineral processing facility has a total ore processing capacity of 9,000 metric tonnes per day. The facility includes copper and zinc flotation circuits, precious metals recovery through cyanide leaching, and refining. It produces doré bars containing gold and silver, as well as zinc and copper concentrates which also contain gold and silver. The plant also processes concentrate pulp trucked from the Goldex mill. In 2023, the company was recognized for its transition to filtered tailings management.
Equipment
The mine's infrastructure includes the 2.2-km deep Penna Shaft, which is the deepest single-lift shaft in the Western Hemisphere. Operations extend more than 3 km below the surface, utilising an 823-metre internal shaft. The complex also uses a ramp, a network of conveyors, crushers, and ventilation systems. Automation initiatives are ongoing at LZ5, with automated scoops and trucks used to haul a significant portion of the ore.
Expansion
In 2023, exploration drilling at the LaRonde complex totalled 41,300 metres. The company plans to spend approximately $10.4 million for 50,200 metres of drilling in 2024, with the aim of adding new mineral reserves and resources to extend the mine life further into the 2030s. Modifications were made to the LZ5 processing facility to accommodate ore from the Macassa complex's AK deposit, with processing planned to begin in the second quarter of 2026.
