Overview
Nevada Gold Mines is a joint venture between Barrick Gold Corporation (operator) and Newmont Corporation, formed in 2019. It operates multiple open pit and underground mines in Nevada, United States, producing gold. The complex is undergoing significant reinvestment and equipment upgrades, including the deployment of an autonomous haulage system and 5G communications infrastructure.
Production
Production overview - 2023: gold 3 Moz.
Processing
The complex includes multiple processing facilities, including autoclaves, roasters, oxide mills, a flotation plant, and heap leach facilities. Nevada Gold Mines operates several pressure oxidation facilities (autoclaves) to process refractory ore. The Goldstrike autoclave has been converted to a carbon-in-leach process. The Turquoise Ridge Sage autoclave underwent significant equipment upgrades to improve reliability and performance. Heap leaching is used for low-grade gold ore.
Equipment
A fleet of 300 and 230-tonne haul trucks is being automated with Komatsu's FrontRunner Autonomous Haulage System. An agreement was signed in 2023 for the delivery of 62 new Komatsu 930E-5 haul trucks through 2025, with 47 delivered as of December 2024. The complex also utilises hydraulic shovels and electric rope shovels.
Expansion
Nevada Gold Mines is undergoing significant reinvestment to replace and upgrade equipment and infrastructure. Key developments include the Goldrush project, with permitting completed in 2023, and the deployment of an autonomous haulage system with customised 5G communications infrastructure.

Processing
The mine uses a conventional flotation concentrator that produces a gravity gold concentrate, a silver concentrate, a zinc concentrate, and a precious metals concentrate. The mill processes approximately 2,300 tons of ore per day.
Equipment
The mine utilises conventional diesel-powered rubber-tired equipment for mine development, including twin and single boom drilling jumbos, mobile explosives loading vehicles, load-haul-dump units (LHDs), and end-dump articulated haul trucks. The equipment fleet also includes one LHD capable of semi-autonomous operation and another capable of tele-remote operation.
Expansion
In January 2025, the U.S. Forest Service approved a five-year plan of operations for the Greens Creek Surface Exploration Project, which will test existing mineralised targets and identify new targets not accessible from underground operations. Capital investment in 2026 is expected to be higher than in 2025, partly due to the expansion of the tailings facility. The expansion is expected to increase tailings capacity to 2045. A tailings reprocessing initiative is also underway, with metallurgical work in progress.
