During the current preservation and safe management phase, the workforce is approximately 1,600. The planned processing of stockpiled ore is expected to add about 700 direct jobs. Before the shutdown, the mine provided approximately 7,000 direct jobs.
Overview
Franco-Nevada holds a precious metals stream on the Cobre Panama mine, operated by First Quantum Minerals (90%) and Korea Resources Corporation (10%). As of November 2023, the mine is in a phase of Preservation and Safe Management with production halted, though export of stockpiled concentrate is approved.
Production
Before the halt in production, the plant was intended to achieve a throughput rate of 100 Mtpa by the end of 2023.
