As of September 2023, the workforce totalled 478 employees, consisting of 70 salaried and 408 hourly personnel.
Overview
The Marigold Mine, located in southeastern Humboldt County, Nevada, on the Battle Mountain-Eureka trend, is a large-scale, open-pit gold operation. Owned and operated by SSR Mining Inc., with royalty interests held by Franco-Nevada Corporation and Royal Gold, it has been in continuous operation since 1989. The mine includes several open pits, waste rock stockpiles, and leach pads.
Production
The mine achieved five million ounces of gold produced over its 35-year history by December 30, 2024. Gold production was 278,000 ounces in 2023. For the first quarter of 2026, the mine produced 37,730 ounces of gold. As of December 31, 2025, probable mineral reserves were 2.9 million ounces of gold at an average grade of 0.50 g/t, with an additional 0.4 million ounces in leach pad inventory.
Processing
The processing method is a run-of-mine heap leach process, which includes a carbon adsorption facility, and a carbon processing and gold refining facility. The final product, gold doré bars, is sent to a third-party refinery.
Equipment
The mining equipment fleet includes electric and hydraulic shovels and 280-tonne haul trucks.
Expansion
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has approved expansion plans for the mine. The Mackay Optimization Project will expand operations and is expected to extend the mine life. A Valmy Expansion project is also planned, which includes the expansion of open pits and modifications to waste rock storage areas and haul roads. These expansions are expected to provide operational flexibility for activities planned through 2037.
