Overview
The Mt Ida Project is described as "shovel-ready" and is currently under development. As of November 2023, the project has received all statutory approvals for the commencement of open pit mining operations from the Western Australian Department of Mines, Industry, Regulation and Safety (DMIRS), including an approved Mining Proposal and Mine Closure Plan. The project is fully permitted for both open pit and underground mining. Feasibility studies for a lithium concentrate project are underway.

Approximately 1,680 employees and contractors as of 2025.
Overview
KCGM Operations represents a premier gold mining hub situated in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Western Australia, roughly 600km east of Perth. The asset has been entirely owned and managed by Northern Star Resources Ltd since early 2021. The operation centerpieces the Fimiston Open Pit, widely recognized as the Super Pit, which reaches dimensions of 3.5km in length and 700m in depth. It functions as a fully integrated complex that also incorporates the Mt Charlotte and Fimiston underground mines to maintain a continuous 24/7 production cycle.
Production
During the 2025 financial year, the operation produced 419,000 ounces of gold. Production guidance for the 2026 financial year is set between 520,000 and 600,000 ounces, reflecting an intentional ramp-up in activity. The site currently moves over 80 million tonnes of total material annually from the open pit. Northern Star aims to achieve a steady-state production rate of 900,000 ounces per annum by 2029 through aggressive infrastructure upgrades and expanded mining areas.
Processing
Ore treatment occurs across the Fimiston and Gidji processing plants, which currently maintain a combined capacity of 13 million tonnes per annum. The metallurgical process begins with primary crushing and grinding through SAG and Ball Mills. Following comminution, a flotation circuit produces a pyrite-telluride concentrate. This concentrate undergoes ultra-fine grinding and roasting at the Gidji facility to facilitate gold extraction. Final recovery utilizes cyanide leaching within Carbon-in-Leach or Carbon-in-Pulp circuits. The resulting gold is precipitated and smelted into doré bars containing approximately 70% to 80% gold before being transported to the Perth Mint for final purification.
Equipment
The open pit utilizes a high-capacity fleet featuring Caterpillar 793 haul trucks and Komatsu PC8000 face shovels. Underground sections rely on specialized low-profile loaders, jumbos, and long-hole drills to navigate the subterranean environment. As of late 2025, the operation supports a workforce of approximately 1,680 employees and contractors. The labor model is predominantly residential, with about 90% of the staff living locally in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, while the remainder operates on a fly-in, fly-out basis.
Expansion
A major $1.5 billion expansion is currently underway to increase the Fimiston mill capacity to 27 million tonnes per annum. This project is slated for commissioning in the first half of the 2026-2027 financial year and will eventually lead to the decommissioning of the Gidji plant. The Fimiston South Project is also extending the operational life of the mine to 2034 by deepening the southern sections of the pit. Concurrently, underground ore production is expected to double to nearly 4 million tonnes per annum by 2026 as new portals in the Fimiston Underground become active.

Ore from the Rosemont underground mine is processed at a crushing and grinding circuit at the Rosemont site, which has a capacity of 1.5 million tonnes per annum. The ore is then pumped as a slurry via a 10-kilometre pipeline to the Garden Well processing plant for leaching and gold recovery through a carbon-in-leach (CIL) circuit.
Expansion
Regis Resources is currently developing the Rosemont Stage 3 extension, which is located south of the existing underground operations and will extend mining to a depth of 700 metres below the surface. This extension has a mining inventory of 1.7 million tonnes at a grade of 2.8 g/t for 157,000 ounces of contained gold, which includes a Probable Ore Reserve of 490,000 tonnes at 2.6 g/t for 41,000 ounces of gold. The Rosemont Stage 3 is expected to have an annualised gold production target of 40,000 to 50,000 ounces. The scheduled underground ore mining rate for this extension is up to approximately 600,000 tonnes per annum.
