Overview
Pascua-Lama is a gold, silver, and copper project operated by Barrick Gold Corporation, located on the border of Chile and Argentina. Designed as a large-scale open-pit operation, construction began in October 2009 but was suspended in Q4 2013. The Chilean portion is transitioning to closure, while the Argentinian portion is being re-evaluated.
Processing
Conventional mining techniques including drilling and blasting. Ore was to be transported to a primary crusher in Chile, then conveyed through a 2.7-kilometre tunnel to processing facilities in Argentina. The plant was designed for 45,000 tonnes per day throughput, involving secondary crushing, milling, washing, conventional flotation for copper concentrates, and cyanide leaching for gold and silver doré.

Overview
The Pueblo Viejo mine is located in the Dominican Republic, approximately 100 kilometres northwest of the capital city of Santo Domingo. It is a joint venture operated by Pueblo Viejo Dominicana Corporation, with Barrick Gold Corporation holding a 60% interest and Newmont Corporation owning the remaining 40%. Construction began in 2008, with first production in 2012 and commercial production commencing in 2013. The mine consists of two open pits, Moore and Monte Negro.
Production
Production overview - 2023: gold 558333 oz; 2022: gold 713333 oz.
Processing
The processing method involves pressure oxidation in autoclaves followed by a carbon-in-leach circuit. A plant expansion project, which reached commercial production in the third quarter of 2024, is designed to increase throughput. The expansion aims to achieve an 85% recovery rate in 2025 and is targeting 90% by 2027. The conversion of the Quisqueya 1 power plant to natural gas was completed in 2020, which is expected to decrease greenhouse gas emissions by 30%.
Equipment
conventional truck-and-shovel open pit
Expansion
A major plant expansion and mine life extension project is underway to sustain average annual gold production above 800,000 ounces (100% basis) and extend the mine's life beyond 2040. The total estimated capital cost for the project is US$2.1 billion. Phase 1 of the expansion, related to the process plant, was completed and achieved commercial production in the third quarter of 2024. A delayed ramp-up occurred due to the failure of a feed conveyor, which has since been reconstructed. Phase 2 focuses on a new tailings storage facility (TSF) called El Naranjo. The feasibility study for the Naranjo TSF was completed in the third quarter of 2024, and tenders for major construction contracts have been released. Early works for the new TSF are expected to begin in 2025. The project requires a resettlement action plan for local communities.

Processing
The processing facilities will produce a high-quality copper-gold concentrate through a crush, mill, and flotation circuit. Construction is planned in two phases with a combined process capacity of 90 million tonnes per annum.
Equipment
The operation will be a conventional truck-and-shovel open pit mine. This will include the use of 360-ton trucks.
Expansion
The reconstitution of the Reko Diq project was completed in December 2022. In February 2025, Barrick filed an updated NI 43-101 technical report for the project. As of April 2026, Barrick has slowed development activity and extended the project review until mid-2027 due to escalating security risks in the region. This is expected to lead to significant increases in the previously estimated capital budget and timeline. The initial target for first production was the end of 2028, which is now under review. The estimated capital cost for Phase 1 was between $5.6 billion and $6.0 billion, and for Phase 2 was between $3.3 billion and $3.6 billion.

A three-year prefeasibility study was planned to start in 2025. Construction of the Bullion Hill exploration decline portal and the start of underground development are expected in 2026. Underground development is expected to provide access for drilling the deeper parts of the orebody from 2027. By 2029, Barrick plans to have 34 kilometres of development connecting Bullion Hill with the Goldrush infrastructure. Initial test stoping and production ramp-up are anticipated around 2029-2030. The mine is projected to produce between 600,000 and 750,000 ounces of gold annually once fully operational. In 2026, the company plans to use more than 20 rigs for approximately 120 kilometres of directional surface drilling. The drilling program aims for 30-35 metre spacing for indicated resources and 80-90 metre spacing for inferred resources. The plan includes 370 kilometres of surface drilling and 80 kilometres of underground drilling by the end of 2028. There is an exploration upside estimate of 32-34 million tonnes at a grade of 15-16 g/t gold outside of the 2024 mineral resource.

approximately 2,350 to 3,000 direct employees and several thousand contractors. As of 2021, 97% of the workforce were Dominican nationals.
Production
Production overview - 2023: gold 559000 oz; 2022: gold 713000 oz.
Processing
The ore is processed through crushing and grinding, followed by pressure oxidation in autoclaves for refractory ore, and then a carbon-in-leach (CIL) circuit to recover gold and silver.
Equipment
The mining operation is a conventional truck and shovel method. The processing plant utilises gearless mill drives.
Expansion
A major plant expansion and mine life extension project is underway to increase throughput and sustain gold production at an average of 800,000 ounces per year (100% basis). This expansion is expected to extend the mine's life beyond 2040. The project includes the construction of a new tailings storage facility.

Overview
The Porgera mine was placed on care and maintenance in April 2020 after the government of Papua New Guinea did not renew its special mining lease. Following negotiations, a new special mining lease was granted to New Porgera Limited in October 2023. The mine officially reopened on 22 December 2023, with recommissioning work beginning immediately. The first gold pour since the restart was expected in the first quarter of 2024. Full production is anticipated to be reached by the end of 2024.
Production
Production overview - 2019: gold 600000 oz; 2009: gold 572595 oz, silver 94764 oz.
Processing
The Porgera processing plant utilises a conventional method that includes crushing, grinding, gravity recovery, flotation, pressure oxidation, and carbon-in-pulp (CIP) cyanide leaching. The plant has a capacity of approximately 6 million tonnes per year.
Equipment
new fleet of surface drill rigs from Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions, ordered in the first quarter of 2025. This includes four Sandvik DR410i rotary blasthole drill rigs and three Leopard™ DI650i down-the-hole (DTH) drill rigs. This is in addition to new Sandvik trucks, loaders, and drills for the underground operations, with deliveries expected to continue through 2028. The open-pit mine has historically used a fleet of O&K RH 200 hydraulic excavators and Caterpillar 789 haul trucks. The underground operations are equipped with a modern trackless mining fleet.

Production
Production overview - 2025: gold 249000 oz; 2021: gold 260000 oz.
Processing
The process plant has the capacity to process an average of 8,000 tonnes of ore per day.
Equipment
The underground mining fleet includes Sandvik TH540, TH551i, and TH663i trucks, and Caterpillar R2900G LHDs, as well as Sandvik production and development drills. In the fourth quarter of 2022, ten new Cat 777 trucks were commissioned for the open pit operations. The full fleet consists of over 400 light vehicles and trucks.
Expansion
A new crushing plant was being constructed, with commissioning planned for the fourth quarter of 2023, to improve crush size and increase throughput. The Gokona Boxcut Project commenced development of a new surface decline at the Gokona deposit at the end of 2024. The new portal on the east mine is intended to enable the mining of the Gokona cutback in 2025, with the decline development expected to be complete in the first quarter of 2025. Mining at the Gena Pit was restarted in the second half of 2023. There has been a transition from contractor to owner-miner for open cast mining.
