Overview
The Zaldívar mine is an open-pit, heap-leach copper mine located in the Andean Precordillera in the Antofagasta Region of northern Chile. It is situated approximately 1,400 kilometres north of Santiago and about 175-196 kilometres southeast of the port city of Antofagasta, at an altitude of 3,000 to 3,300 metres. The mine is a 50/50 joint venture between Barrick Gold Corporation and Antofagasta Plc; Antofagasta is the operator. The mine, which commenced production in 1995, produces high-grade copper cathodes.
Production
Production overview - 2025: copper 62000000 t; 2023: copper 40500 t.
Processing
The mine recovers copper through heap leaching of crushed ore, followed by solvent extraction and electrowinning (SX-EW) to produce copper cathodes. The processing infrastructure includes a primary gyratory crusher, secondary cone crushers, and tertiary crushers. An electrowinning plant was modified to increase its capacity to 150,000 tonnes of cathode copper per year. The approved mine life extension allows for the future development of primary sulphide ore.
Equipment
truck and shovel fleet, primary gyratory crusher, secondary cone crushers, water-flush tertiary crushers, flotation plant, electrowinning plant, 16 Alfa Laval plate heat exchangers, 95-metre steel dome
Expansion
In May 2025, the Chilean Environmental Authority approved an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to extend the mine's life until 2051. This extension includes a plan to transition the mine's water source from the local aquifer to either seawater or a third-party source, which will follow a transition period extending the current water extraction permit from 2025 to 2028. The project, which involves developing a deep primary sulphide ore body, has a proposed investment of $1.2 billion over the life of the mine.

Workforce
The mine has a multinational workforce with employees from countries including Egypt, Zambia, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Philippines, Tanzania, Ghana, and Saudi Arabia.
Overview
The Jabal Sayid mine is located 350 kilometres north-east of Jeddah. It is an underground operation using large-scale longhole open stoping, with a combination of cemented rock fill and paste fill. The project extracts approximately 3 million tonnes of ore per year. In 2025, the mine switched from diesel generators to grid power. As of 31 December 2025, Barrick's 50% share of proven and probable copper reserves was 0.25 million tonnes.
Production
Production overview - 2025: copper 64000 t; 2024: copper 65000 t.
Processing
The processing method involves conventional flotation to produce a copper concentrate. The mine utilises a Barrick-patented air-metabisulfate process which does not require cyanide, lime, or fresh water, and processes copper concentrate using 100 percent wastewater. In January 2026, the Saudi government launched an initiative to build a 75-kilometre treated-water pipeline to support the Jabal Sayid area, which is expected to reduce water supply costs by up to 60 percent.
Equipment
The underground mining fleet is composed of Sandvik machines, including nine TH663i and three TH663 trucks, seven LH621i and one LH621 LHDs, four DL421 production drills, and three DD421 development rigs. A Rhino 100HM boxhole borer is also used.
Expansion
An expansion project is underway with the development of the Lode 1 orebody, located less than a kilometre from the existing lode. Extensive underground capital development for the extension was completed in 2024, along with upgrades to ventilation and the paste plant. Stoping at Lode 1 commenced in the third quarter of 2023. Commissioning of the paste plant began in the second quarter of 2024. Barrick and Ma'aden also signed joint venture agreements in January 2023 for exploration at the Jabal Sayid South and Umm Ad Damar license areas.
